NADH is a kind of chemical substance which is nicotinamide adenine dinucleotidereduced form of nicotinamide-adenine dinucleotid, i.e. Reduced Coenzyme Ⅰ; wherein N indicates nicotinamide, A indicates adenine, and D represents dinucleotide.
As NADH typically participates in the metabolism of substances and energy in cells, it is produced by the citric acid cycle in glycolysis and cellular respiration, and acts as a carrier and bio-electron donor of biohydrogen. It transfers energy to ATP synthesis through oxidative phosphorylation on the inner membrane of mitochondria, so NADH is also called Enada NADH. In theory, the energy released by one molecule of NADH can synthetize 2.5 molecules of ATP.
NADH is produced by the citric acid cyclecitric acid cycle in glycolysisglycolysis and cellular respirationcellular respiration. The NADH molecule is a control marker in the energy production chain in mitochondriamitochondria. Monitoring the redox status of NADH is the best parameter to characterize mitochondrial function in vivo. UV can stimulate NADH in mitochondria to produce fluorescence, which is used to monitor such mitochondrial function.
1. NADH is an important coenzyme in aerobic respiration, and [H] in NADH also carries plenty of energy. Studies have confirmed that the extracellular use of NADH can promote the rise of intracellular ATP levels, suggesting that NADH can penetrate cell membranes and increase intracellular energy levels.

Studies have revealed that NADH can reduce oxidative stress of cells caused by various factors such as radiation, drugs, toxic substances, strenuous exercise, ischemia, etc., so protecting vascular endothelial cells, liver cells, cardiac muscle cells, fibroblasts, neurons, etc. Therefore, injection or oral NADH is used clinically to improve cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases and assist cancer chemoradiation and other fields. Topical NADH has been shown to be effective in treating rosacea and contact dermatitis.
3. Clinical trial data have showed that NADH is helpful in improving the symptoms of Parkinson's disease. NADH can also promote the biosynthesis of norepinephrine and serotonin, showing good application potential for the relief of depression and the Alzheimer’s disease.
